Every parent automatically becomes a member of the Parent Forum when their child starts school, enabling any parent to get involved with school life in whatever way they can, whether it is helping out on a trip or disco, participating in parent curriculum workshops, supporting an extra-curricular sports activity, sharing work place knowledge with a group of children in the classroom or as a representative on the Parent Council.
The Calderwood Parent Council is one of the most active in the region and raises over £10,000 a year to support school activities. What makes this possible is the generosity of parents and the wider school community when they participate in events organised by the Parent Council such as the summer and Christmas Fairs. The money raised is used by the school to fund a range of activities and items including: transport for all school trips, sports equipment, the latest IT equipment and outdoor learning.
But it’s not just about raising money, the Parent Council offers parents the opportunity to have an input into the discussion about important issues affecting the school and enables parents to get involved across a range of activities.

The Parent Council will give a warm welcome to anyone who comes along. They meet once a month in the school, usually on the first Thursday of the month, from 7 – 9pm and there’s always plenty of coffee and cake!
